Secondary shock from this: Popeye was a redhead?! How have I gone this long without knowing that?

Sure, later media has him keep his hat on or else he has only a few wispy hairs if any at all, but I feel like I should have seen this at some point in the past few decades.

Next week: accused of domestic abuse and divorced with all his money taken away. Also told he ruined her life by not wrecking her ribs.

I can only imagine the following panel of Popeye crushing a can of spinach open and then the next panel after that is an ambulance parked in front of their house, along with a police car.

        Well, dang!

A lot of the old Popeye hasn’t aged too well for me, often being on the repetitive and dull side, but this sequence is hilarious, sharp, and has aged really well IMO. So… we’re looking at a date of… Dec 19th, 1937, is it?

“Disgustipated” was coined by E.C. Segar in his syndicated comic strip Popeye. Earliest known use was 1938.

I only knew it as a Tool song. Neat.
