You suck on the electricity REALLY hard. That makes an electrical vacuum. You can try it right now. Put your mouth on the charging port of your phone, and suck really hard. Now the difference in electrical levels will make your screen brighter while you suck.

It is dark magic but from what I understand it’s *done by placing a portion of the circuit behind the power supply, so that it’s both pushing 12 volts and pulling 12 volts.

I don’t think that that is enough of an understanding to replicate the phenomenon, but if you were designing such a circuit with a gun to your head and no know how, it might be enough for you to figure it out and save your own life.

      Depends on relative to what.

Connected to the wall: it’s AC (alternating current). half the wave is already negative. You can rectify it backwards, apparently. Or, you can use a split phase transformer.

Connected to a really big battery: big inverter just swaps the leads on the battery really fast.

Hold in your hand: negative charge pump. Magic & momentum.

Easy, you just subtract a higher voltage from a lower voltage. Thats just maths.

Alternatively, just swap the red and black probes on your multimeter, and now your positive voltage is negative.

Or, just twist that knob on your oscope.
