Funny wouldn’t a cop normally shoot arm mask men if they started to approach him? Cops shoot people all the time. I guess ICE has no fear if they will go after cops. What the fuck do us normal people do when they come for us? Because I am NOT being taken to some constrainton camp.
He was attempting to purchase a gun for work, but wasn’t able to. He was flagged in the system which is why ICE went after him.
The police department used DHS’s own “e-verify” website to make sure that Evans was able to work. So, it sounds like some of their own internal systems are unreliable.
Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin told WMTW-TV that use of E-Verify “does not absolve employers of their legal duty” to verify legal employment status.
“The Old Orchard Beach Police Department’s reckless reliance on E-Verify to justify arming an illegal alien, Jon Luke Evans, violates federal law, and does not absolve them of their failure to conduct basic background checks to verify legal status,” McLaughlin told the station.
So E-Verify is less than worthless. It provides no assurances, and running an individual through the tool could presumably bring them to ICE’s attention.
These cops’ training failed them once the bad guys dressed like them. If only their were some acorns around, or if ICE were unarmed could they have reacted appropriately.
