Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says he will begin trying to remove Democratic lawmakers from office Monday if they don’t return after dozens of them left the state in a last-resort attempt to block redrawn U.S. House maps that President Donald Trump wants before the 2026 midterm elections.

This is a good time to point out that the 2 seat GOP majority in the House was stolen. 16 GOP seats are from gerrymandering. An actually representative congress would have a 14 seat Dem majority.

    https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/how-gerrymandering-tilts-2024-race-house

And Texas is wants to increase the 16 stolen gerrymandring seats to 21 stolen GOP seats because they don’t think that 16 stolen seats will be enough in the next election.

Thank you for posting the map. It’s wild how every city in every state (from what I can tell) is always a blue dot surrounded by a sea of red.

And the blue dots have hundreds of times more people than the red swathes of land. Blue vs. red is essentially urban vs. rural.

Redrawing maps seems like it’s removing a pretty big load-bearing whatever from society. So every state is permalocked to a party because nobody can afford to play fair - now what?

      now what?

Now we declare Democrats non-citizens and remove them to the camps. Obviously their assets will need to be seized.

Unfortunately, that kind of seems where it’s all headed. States will lock into a party, people will either be forced or feel forced to move to a state that they align with, states begin to secede.

If Jesus himself came and told all MAGA to embrace their lefty neighbors and immigrants, they could call him a hoax. I really don’t see a way out of how divided we are. And it doesn’t help we have 3.5yrs left of divisive bullshit spewing out of the white house everyday.

Which is extra ironic, because allegedly he already did. In their own bible.

IIRC Abraham Lincoln once jumped out a window to prevent quorum for a vote his side would lose.

I literally thought they should steal his wheelchair.

I deemed it too mean of a thought to share unprompted, but, well, I was prompted.

I guess if the U.S. is bound and determined to become a corporate controlled religious theocracy, then at least we could come up with some really surrealist political protest before the collapse and genocides.

Abbot was paralyzed when a tree fell on him. He sued and received a large settlement. Then as Texas AG, and governor, worked to make it harder for people to sue for large settlements.

He is an asshole who deserved no respect, disabled or not.

Oh, he absolutely is a ladder puller and an absolutely despicable human.

My hesitation has less to do with respecting him as an individual, than it does with broadcasting an idea that is generally disrespectful of a group of people who, writ large, he would abandon to the gutters rather than provide social support for.
I’ve got fucked up morals, I know. As Marc Marin would say, I’m a buzzkill.

Yup. These rules on how to run their local government were put in place to prevent blacks and women from achieving equality. Whenever marginalized people got too close to achieving anything a couple consecutive officials would flee to Florida or Mississippi until things quiet down. They’ll remove that law the moment it’s not on their favor.
