Idk it kinda feels like the implication is that if you have due process, then this would be okay. I’m firmly in the camp that nobody should be shipped to an El Salvador Gulag for any reason

dastanktal@lemmy.mlto Programming@programming.dev•AWS deleted my 10-year account and all data without warning283·6 days agoThis is a really interesting read, but this dude missed a major component of best practices, which is that your architecture needs to be able to respond to a proper disaster, which includes Amazon just dropping out of the sky and nuking your entire account.
Frankly, it’s shocking that he didn’t have local copies or a home server that he kept backups too. I’ve seen some people mention that a multi-cloud architecture is hard to set up, which is true, it’s also expensive, but I don’t think it would be super hard to set up, like, a blob storage in Azure, or a Google Cloud Storage, to just keep backups of whatever you’re working on. We should always keep in mind that our accounts getting locked is always a possibility.
It’s kinda weird, normally when you hear about things like this, it’s the other way around where somebody was running a major production component on personal infrastructure and couldn’t handle the bare metal.
dastanktal@lemmy.mlto Programming@programming.dev•AWS deleted my 10-year account and all data without warning51·6 days agoDuring the entire article I kept thinking how it wasn’t best practice to use the same cloud for everything, that you needed a different cloud because occasionally, your account can just get nuked from orbit. People dont understand that these corporations are really just held together with luck prayers and duct tape. Software enables us to develop in the worst ways possible, and then call it production.
Hey, I don’t care about the reason as long as it helps the cause.

Yeah, that tracks.
Probably could have left out the words “without due process” because they should not be throwing people into an El Salvadorian gulag.

Unfortunately, what you’re describing is the final stage of capitalism. Imperialism, where all that’s left is for capital to drain everything for the gods of profit.
dastanktal@lemmy.mlto politics @lemmy.world•Trump Sinks Trade Negotiations With Canada After They Announce Intention to Recognize Palestinian State: ‘Will Make It Very Hard’75·9 days agoUnfortunately, it’s a bit of the other way around. Israel only exists at the pleasure of the United States. I’ve read somewhere that we’re funding up to 70% of their economy right now.
The sad fact of the matter is, the United States doesn’t care about the Palestinian cause or plight other than the bad press it’s giving them.
Don’t be fooled, the United States has always been in control of a situation, and it’s simply choosing not to do anything.

dastanktal@lemmy.mlto News@lemmy.world•FCC to eliminate gigabit speed goal and scrap analysis of broadband prices21·10 days agoNow, it’s not my fault you can’t read, nor did the proper work to understand the 200,000 number, where it came from, and when it was released.
This is so fucking cute of you to use the Wikipedia number of 60,000, which has been heavily disputed, and then try to claim that this 200,000 number occurred only during the Trump administration. The Lancet had already released before Trump had gotten elected a notice or an article about how the death toll was significantly undercounted. In fact, a majority of the NGOs involved in that area since about 2024 have been screaming about how there is a famine going on and how this is a genocide.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famine_in_Gaza?wprov=sfla1
But because you’re so wrapped up in liberal propaganda, you wouldn’t know that this famine has been ongoing for almost two years and has only just recently moved into its worst phase, phase five. Did you know there are four other phases before that? I wonder which President allowed those four phases to occur.
The fact of the matter is, Joe Biden allowed a genocide to happen, unrequitedly, and then lied to the American public about it.
You might be able to make an argument that for the American people, a Democrat administration might have been better, but for the Palestinians, it would have been the same.
Besides, this goes to my point that if the democrats hadn’t been so fucking genocidal towards the Palestinians, they might have won the 2024 election, but who fucking knows?
It’s almost like I’m advocating for the position that the majority of the constituents the Democrats represent actually want and not the bullshit they keep feeding us.
dastanktal@lemmy.mlto News@lemmy.world•FCC to eliminate gigabit speed goal and scrap analysis of broadband prices21·10 days agoSo, let me make sure I got this right. Biden lowered the ACA premiums not by forcing the insurance companies to charge a lower premium, but by giving those insurance companies and the people they represent tax credits and from allowing those who take advantage of the ACA to take less from their income tax.
Yeah, this definitely represents the government option that he used to run on in 2020. Definitely helped a bunch of people who already couldn’t afford healthcare. Im sure this did alleviate some pressure, but it doesnt affect the majority of people and, these tax credits are set to expire so it’ll end up being a wash.

I guess you could consider trans to be an attribute you’re born with, but I generally consider trans to be a part of our gender expression, which science has described as being incredibly fluid which is why we not only have trans people, but we also have genderfluid people, and non-binary people, and other varieties along that spectrum as well.

Everything in the name of profit.
This brings into question whether these practices can thrive in capitalist systems that prioritize profit over people.
It can’t.
Was this article written by AI? The list at the end is especially suspicious since it has three stats with three bullet points each, which seems like something an AI would do since it’s really obsessed with the rule of three.
