To get the obvious out of the way: Pacman, Doom 2, Starcraft, Simcity 2000, Civ 3. All genre-defining milestones.
Total Annihilation. They’re still making sequels today (Supreme Commander, Beyond all Reason).
Warzone 2100 was the first 3D rotatable zoomable RTS which was pretty mind blowing at the time.

Generally you get what you pay for. A paid course will have a proper progression and structure and while you can find the same into on YouTube it’ll be scattered and disjointed, making it kinda aimless.
Imagine a junior dev called “Big Balls” starting up Claude Code and telling it “Hey I need you to make this app great, remove all unnecessary code” and then just accepting whatever it proposes. This is an app with no unit tests, no dev environment, running in production, and if it crashes people die in concentration camps.
