The one thing you can’t do with IPv6 is yell the address across the room to the technician plugged into the switch trying to ping the node.
socsa@piefed.socialto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•We don't talk about IPv5English331·18 hours agoMeh, the idea of having every address be globally routable makes a lot of sense. NAT is a great bandaid but it’s still a bandaid. It still limits how peer to peer and multicast applications function, especially on larger networks.
Maybe the smartest thing I ever did was realize very early on, when Facebook was still in the University-only beta stage, that I wanted absolutely nothing to do with this new trend of attaching my real name to things on the Internet.
I spend like $3k/yr at my local bar.
MacBooks are legitimately just superior laptops, especially now that apple silicon is well supported. I don’t like iPhones or their desktops, but the laptops are pretty much unmatched in terms of portability, features, battery life etc
I am an unabashed Linux stan but I use a macbook to ssh into my Linux boxes because there is no Linux laptop which is half as good.

I’m just commenting that it’s unexpected and unusual for a FOSS dev to not be Linux user. Idc what they do, just making the observation as someone involved in the FOSS space that most of my peers are more likely to shit on windows than Linux.
socsa@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Duckstation(one of the most popular PS1 Emulators) dev plans on eventually dropping Linux support due to Linux users, especially Arch Linux users.English3941·3 days agoI just cannot wrap my head around an emulator dev who isn’t daily driving Linux…
Damn people are really misunderstanding this comment. Legitimately just don’t know anyone who is involved in FOSS projects who doesn’t primarily use Linux. Not really passing judgement here, just making an observation.
How tf do you get a ticket on a bike? Just hop on the sidewalk and down an alley or two and nobody’s going to catch you.
If this situation was reversed, MAGA would have raised $100k for her legal defense by now.
socsa@piefed.socialto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it okay to cover the outside of a microwave in aluminum to prevent or lessen microwave WiFi interference?English11·3 days agoIt is unlikely to make much difference. How often are you microwaving food that a small bit of interference is worth the effort to do this?

socsa@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can i simply bake frozen chicken or does it actually need to thaw over several hours or immersed in cold water or something?English52·4 days agoHonestly I have no idea. Maybe like 20 minutes at 325F? Buy a cheap meat thermometer.
No harm can come of it as long as you cook it to temp. It might not be very good, but it won’t make you sick.
socsa@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can i simply bake frozen chicken or does it actually need to thaw over several hours or immersed in cold water or something?English151·4 days agoYou can cook it however you want as long as it gets to 160F. I sous vide frozen chicken all the time. I bet you could roast it at low temp just fine. Or just defrost it in the microwave.
It’s ugly and trashy
