who@feddit.orgto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Sorry, but which of these distros is right for me?English2·4 days agoWhat’s easy to use is pretty subjective. As a game developer, you’re already at least a step or two removed from the proverbial average computer user. I suggest downloading live images of a few different distros and desktop environments, and playing with each for a while to get a feel for the differences.
I’m a gamer and developer, too. KDE Plasma is my desktop of choice these days.
I need to be able to use Unreal Engine
Someone else asked about this just 8 days ago, here:
https://beehaw.org/post/21209323
Regarding that particular requirement:
The Unreal Engine for Linux page indicates that they offer pre-compiled builds for Ubuntu 22.04.
It’s possible that those pre-compiled builds might work on Linux Mint, since Mint is based on Ubuntu. I would probably try this before committing to the officially supported Ubuntu version, both because it’s nice to have a newer distro and because Mint has a good track record of avoiding Ubuntuisms that are not generally well received (e.g. Snap).
If you don’t mind some extra work, you can apparently build Unreal for other linux distros. See here:

I don’t know of any native Linux games that are specifically for Arch Linux. Your favourite distro is a bit of a red herring.

The petition makes sense. It aims to solve a problem that affects many individuals and a significant part of human culture.
What I do find suspicious is the sudden emergence of criticism now that it looks like it might succeed. I smell astroturfing and media manipulation.

Do you have the game-devices-udev package installed? Its udev rules might be needed for some software to detect your controller and its features.
Have you tested for different behavior when connecting your DualShock 4 via Bluetooth vs. USB?

I’m not aware of any such communities that run their forum on Lemmy.
I think it could fit, although Lemmy’s design as a link aggregation site gives it some rough edges for the purpose we’re discussing. For example, the search functions are a bit awkward to use, there is no support for subtopics, and file upload support is (from what I’ve seen) very limited.
On the other hand, Lemmy’s use of Markdown makes it more comfortable for text formatting than BBCode, which is the HTML-like markup used on many forums.

FreeBSD descends from the Berkeley Software Distribution, a descendant of Bell Labs Unix. As it is very much a pedigreed Unix, you don’t have to say “UNIX like”. :)
Fun fact: The network sockets API that is (or was originally) used by every major OS for internet protocol support came from BSD.
Edit: You might enjoy these Unix family trees…

This is perfectly in character for Trump. Nothing about it would make someone think it comes from The Onion. Rule 4.
